Kalaeloa Beach Park Surf Lessons

What to expect:

Just a short ride from your stay at Aulani Resort, we offer fun and enjoyable surf lessons for you and the entire family! Come to Kalaeloa Beach Park, a secret gem on the west side of Oahu, and experience the tranquility it has to offer.

Group lesson:
  • Ages – 13+ (please see private lessons for under 13)

Whether you’re beginners or intermediate surfers, this group surf lesson in Kapolei delivers high-quality surf instruction at an incredible value. The north shore is renowned for its exceptional surf lessons, making it an ideal location for honing your skills. Your class never has more than four students for each instructor, so you’re sure to get plenty of personalized attention. Even if you only have a few hours to spare, our surf lessons are designed to fit into your schedule. We start with a 30-minute land demonstration and spend the entire time surfing in the ocean. Participants must be at least 13 years old or at least 100 lbs. in weight

** PLEASE NOTE: Group participants are required to paddle their own surfboards back to their instructor with little or no assistance. Men over 230 lbs./women over 200 lbs. or those requiring a life jacket should book a private lesson for safety reasons. Someone suitable for this lesson type would be those that are able to tread in water for one full minute without having to use their hands.

One-hour private lesson:
  • Ages 3+

The private one-on-one lesson is specially designed for your precious keikis — or kids. Adults are also welcome! Having the undivided attention of our experienced surf instructors is guaranteed to be the safest and most effective way for you to surf real Hawaiian waves.

We start with a land demonstration and then move the lesson to the ocean. Depending on weight and ability, we have the surfer go tandem surfing or surfing alongside the instructor. No matter what, the instructor is with you or your child every step of the way!

What to bring:

Swimsuit, towel, and sunscreen. (Rashguard, reef shoes, and surfboard rental are FREE with lesson.)

SURFING IS AN EXTREME SPORT! Please read the statement below before booking your surf lesson.

By booking a surf lesson with us, You do hereby affirm and acknowledge that you will be fully informed of the inherent hazards and risks associated with surfing and understand that injuries, shark attacks, and drowning may occur during participation at SURF HNL. You understand that there are inherent risks involved in the sport of surfing and that injuries are a normal and ordinary occurrence, and fully recognize such hazards and understand the nature and existence of inherent risks. Surf HNL does not accept liability or responsibility for accidental death or personal injuries caused for any participants unless by the proven negligence of Surf HNL Employees.

You also understand that surfer’s paralysis (myelopathy) is a non-traumatic spine injury. It usually affects beginning surfers who arch their back too often or too long paddling on their board. The constant arching reduces blood flow to the spine. It occurs due to mild weakness, sensory problems, and back pain. Some surfers afflicted with this condition recover completely, some never do, some only do partially. It depends on the severity of the injury and each individual person. Stop immediately and head back to the beach if you are feeling the slightest back pain. Have many breaks during your first surfing lessons. Signs and adverse effects include: Back pain, a tingling sensation in the legs, loss of feeling in legs, inability to walk, paralysis, and urinary retention.
